As one of the 17 pilot colleges selected by the Ministry of Education, China, the College of Civil Engineering at Tongji University is being reformed by establishing healthy mechanism, attracting exceptional faculty, and cultivating excellent students. The Pilot College of Civil Engineering is devoted to educate creative talents with wide international perspectives and lifelong learning interest, who are able to fulfill the needs of future society and to promote technology advancement. We are globally seeking innovative and broad thinking scholars for tenure-track faculty appointments in the pilot positions as full professors or associate professors.

1.About College & University

Tongji University is one of the leading universities in China under direct administration of Ministry of Education, listed in “Project 985” and “Project 211”. With a history of over one century, Tongji has valued the balanced development of four functions including education, research, outreach, and culture inheritance and innovation. Tongji University aims at a comprehensive research-oriented university with high international recognition.

The College of Civil Engineering at Tongji University leads the research and education in the field of civil engineering in mainland China. We consist of the Department of Structural Engineering, the Department of Geotechnical Engineering, the Department of Bridge Engineering, Institute of Structural Engineering and Disaster Prevention, and the Department of Hydraulic Engineering. We are facilitated by the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Prevention in Civil Engineering, and the Key Laboratory of Geotechnical & Underground Engineering (Tongji University), among other advanced laboratories and research centers.

2.Recruitment Schedule

1) April 20 ~ 30, 2015: Announcement of available positions;

2) May 1~ 31, 2015: Application submission to departments;

3) June 1 ~ 20, 2015: A departmental screening review;

4) June 20 ~ 30, 2015: Nomination of qualified candidates and public notification;

5) July 1~15, 2015: An interview by the Academic Committee of the College;

6) July 16~30, 2015: A final evaluation by the Human Resource Department of Tongji University;

7) By July 30, 2015: An official approval of employment.

3.Qualifications

A successful applicant must:

a) Stay healthy with strong interest in teaching and ability of full-time employment at Tongji University;

b) Meet the requirements specified in the document ‘Essential Condition of Senior Professional and Technical Positions at Tongji University’;

c) Meet the requirements specified in the document ‘Regulations for New Faculty in the Pilot College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University (trial implementation)’;

4. Responsibilities within a three-year term of employment

1) Full professor

n No less than 51 teaching hours in each academic year;

n To receive at least one national-level research grant as principal investigator (PI);

n To publish at least 3 papers (or accepted) in SCI-indexed international journals as the first author or the corresponding author;

n To accomplish services in the college regarding disciplinary development, international collaboration, teaching, social service among other duties.

2) Associate professor

n No less than 68 teaching hours in each academic year;

n To receive at least one ministerial- and provincial-level research grant as PI;

n To publish at least 3 papers (or accepted) in SCI-indexed international journals as the first author or the corresponding author;

n To accomplish services in the college regarding disciplinary development, international collaboration, teaching, social service among other duties.
