On February 13th 2017,LOU Yongqi, dean of College of Design and Innovation,TongjiUniversityand Joi ITO, director of the Media LabofMassachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT), US,signeda cooperation agreementat the Media Lab in front of ZHONG Zhihua, president of Tongji University.According to the agreement, a joint lab --City Science Lab@Shanghaiis to be set up in Shanghai, China.
The establishment of thejoint lab will mark an important step for Tongji University in buildingits PeakDiscipline IV inthe design of Shanghai.The lab will be committed to promoting cooperation in teaching and researchbetween Tongji University and MIT, and to doing research andinnovationtransferin design, technology, policy and servicebased on the needs in Shanghai.The joint lab will focus on sustainable lifestyles and industry transformation by thinking from design. It will try to make substantial contributions to the development of a science and innovation center along with an economy with new technology, new industry, new model and new format in Shanghaithrough building close links between the industry and capital and promoting innovation and incubation amid suchchallenges as transportation, health, intelligent life, innovative education, urban-rural interaction,advanced manufacturing in Shanghai.
