A letter from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Munich, Germany arrived at Tongji Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd. (TJAD) to show their appreciation to Tongji teachers for their contributions to the new Consulate premises in Munich. According to the letter, this new Consulate premises, with comprehensive functions and facilities, covered an area of about 22,000m2, the largest one among Chinese consulates general in Europe. It was also the first time for China to purchase a plot of land and built the Consulate premises in Europe. TJAD attached great importance to the project and made great efforts through close cooperation. The successful completion of the new premises is historically significant for the relationship between China and Germany, Bavaria in particular, which will provide a platform to further promote their in-depth relationship.

The new premises of the Consulate General of China in Munich were officially announced on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of China. Led by Professor WANG Zhijun and Professor LI Zhenyu from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University as chief designers, the premises were designed by the Urban Architectural Design Institute (UADI) and the No.1 Architectural Design Institute of TJAD.


The UADI of TJAD began the design commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2010. In the following eight years, the design team completed numerous tasks including design survey, feasibility study, architectural design, preliminary design, construction drawings, interior and landscape design, and provided on-site design services during construction of the new premises.
