HE Manchao, chief scientist of the greater science project of Experimental Installations of Multi-Disasters in Civil Engineering, Tongji University, was elected as a member of Argentina National Academy of Engineering (ANAE) at the recent General Assembly of ANAE 2018. ANAE, as the highest academic institution in engineering and technology of Argentina and CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering) are both member organizations of International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS), the most important academic organization in international engineering and technology.
Professor HE, employed by Tongji University in March 2017, is a leading expert in rock mass mechanics of mining engineering, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a member of the 13th National Committee of CPPCC. As a professor of both Tongji University and China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), HE acts as Vice President of the International Society for Rock Mechanic and Rock Engineering，President of the Education Foundation of International Society for Rock Mechanic and Rock Engineering and Director of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering, Director of China Association for Integrated Innovation in Mining Sciences and Director of Chinese Association for Mining Intellectual Property. He won a second prize of the State Technological Invention Award, three second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and was awarded a number of national honorary titles including the National Distinguished Science and Technology Talents Award (2016) and the National Innovation Award (2017）.
