On April 9, Prof. SHAN Xiaoguang, Dean of the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property (SICIP), and Dr. YU Xinmiao, Vice Dean of SICIP, both from Tongji University attended the 4th EU-China Innovation Cooperation Dialogue in Brussels as members of a Chinese expert group. Chinese Premier LI Keqiang and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker met and took photos with representatives at the Dialogue. The Dialogue, as one of the major events for meetings between China and EU leaders, was co-chaired by WANG Zhigang, Chinese Minister of Science and Technology and Carlos Moedas, Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation.

SHAN delivered a speech, entitled “Deepening China-EU Cooperation in Intellectual Property and Meeting the Challenge of New Science and Technology Revolution” on behalf of the Chinese expert group. He introduced the latest development of China’s IP system in the context of the new science and technology revolution from the perspectives of the revision and enforcement of relevant laws and IP regulations, the training of IP talents and international cooperation in IP. He also suggested the two sides take more advantages of the China-EU innovation cooperation dialogue mechanism, further strengthen coordination, focus on the common challenges posed by such new technologies as big data and artificial intelligence to the IP system of both sides, and jointly cultivate high-end talents in international IP.


Prior to the Dialogue, the Forum on China-EU Research & Innovation Strategic Partnership was organized at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission. The two teachers from Tongji University attended the IP session and explored issues on IP research, personnel training and competition laws with EU experts as well as Ms. Kirsi Haavisto, Director-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission and Ms. Marianne Gumælius, a senior expert from EC.
