Tongji Teachers and Students Participate in the Fourth Global Grand Challenges Summit

The Global Grand Challenges Summit 2019, jointly hosted by Chinese Academy of Engineering, Royal Academy of Engineering, the UK and National Academy of Engineering in the USA, took place on September 16-18 in London, the UK. The Summit with a theme on Engineering in an unpredictable world, was inspired by 14 Grand Challenges for Engineering faced by humanity in the 21st century. About 900 of the next generation’s engineers, researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers attended the Summit at invitation.


Along with the main session of the Summit, parallel events were organized including a Student Collaboration Lab competition, in which Tongji University, as one of the five teams from China participated. The business plan for the project Algae Warriors created by the China-UK-US mixed-country team which was supervised by Dr. LI Longxiang from Tongji University stood out as one of the first ten among the 50 projects in the Co-lab competition.

The first three Global Grand Challenges Summits were held in London, Beijing and Washington in 2013, 2015 and 2017 respectively. The 5th “Global Grand Challenges Summit” will be held in China in 2021.
