Tongji Team discovered and proved an immune response mechanism of germ cells in response to virus invasion

October 18, 2019

On October 10, WENG Zhiping, visiting professor of Tongji, Professor William E. Theurkauf from the Medical School, University of Massachusetts and Keith Chappell from University of Queensland jointly published a paper in Cell, an renowned international academic journal. The paper entitled “The piRNA Response to Retroviral Invasion of the Koala Genome" revealed for the first time the response mechanism of piRNAs to retrovirus invasion ubiquitously from insects to metazoans.

YU Tianxiong, a 2014 graduate from the School of Life Sciences and Technology of Tongji and Birgit S. Koppetsch, a research assistant at the Medical School, University of Massachusetts are co-first authors of this paper. Professor WENG Zhiping from Tongji University, Professor William E.
