It is reported that the Xijiao Hotel was remained when constructing Beihong mid-round overhead road, designed by Tongji University. It also saved 50 million yuan at the same time.
The mid-round overhead road under construction was challenged by the Xijiao Hotel villa area, located between north of Hongxu road and south of Beihong road. If constructed overhead, Xijiao Hotel must be ‘trampled’. Therefore it is decided that road should be constructed underground.
It is said that it will not be successful without 50 million yuan to reinforce soft earth. Yet Tongji experts invented a new way of arranging 80 steel tubes into one array with cross section of 273 m2, going through underground of 126 meters long. This important project was appraised by municipal Science and Technology Commission as world leading and saved at least 50 million.
