After the set up of Tongji-Deutsch College, Tongji-France College since 1998, Tongji will cooperate with distinguished Italian colleges and set up one Tongji-Italy College. The first group of undergraduates for the college will be enrolled in September this year and receive classes in mechanical engineering and information technology provided by three universities in two countries.
Students from both countries are also provided opportunities to study in the counter-part university and get their double bachelor’s degrees offered by Tongji and Italian Universtiy.
Tongji University, together with Milan Polytechnic University and Torino Polytechnic Univeristy fixed the cooperative plan, including discipline setup, program launching, organization and enterprise involvement. It is said that Tongji-Italy College will take the ‘3+1’ and ‘1+2.5’ developing mode, that is students recruited by Chinese side will study in Tongji for three years and in Italian counter parts for one year; students recruited by Italian universities will stay in Italy for one year and in Tongji for two and a half years. Tongji will also take the twice-recruiting mode, selecting 30 students from College of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Information Technology after the beginning of each semester in September. Courses in the college will mostly be taught in English since it aims to develop ‘multinational engineer’.
