On the afternoon of March 16th, the Confucius College sponsored by Tongji University and Obirin University Japan was set up in International Conference Center in Tokyo Japan. Chinese ambassador Wang Yi, Consultant Li Dongxiang, Obirin president Toyoshi Satow, Prof. Lu Jianming, president of International Chinese Teaching Associaton, Tongji vice president Yang Dongyuan, and Prof. Cai Jianguo, dean of Tongji International School, attended the opening ceremony. Ambassador Wang Yi, Prof. Toyoshi Satow and Prof. Yang Dongyuan delivered congratulation speeches on the opening and showed their expectation to the college’s role in popularizing Chinese and reinforce cultural communication between the two countries.
Supported by National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, the Confucius College held its first council meeting On March 17th. It also provide Tongji an opportunity to explore overseas mode of running a school. The first teacher will be sent to Obirin in the beginning of April.
