On the morning of April 9th, Tongji vice president Chen Xiaolong represented the university to sign a co-developing agreement of Shanghai China-Deutsch Friendship Hospital(CDFH) with SPV, Siemens project investment company, and Asklepois, the largest hospital group in Europe. Yang Xiaodu, Shanghai vice mayor, Wu Hele, member of Siemens AG executive council, and Tongji president Wan Gang attended the signing ceremony, which stands for a big step forward since the signing of the understanding memorandum in Berlin in November last year.
It is reported that the three parts will carry out coordinating management for the project, regulating clearly the management frame, financial plan, project process, and interests and obligation of each part.
Funded by Tongji and German investors, China-Deutsch Hospital will be located in International Medical Park in Nanhui District, with the general scale of 1,000 beds, floor space of 84,000 m2. The whole investment reaches about 147 million Euros (about 1.5 billion RMB).The first phase of the project will be completed in 2008, covering five functions of medical treatment, health protection, recovering, teaching and researching. The hospital will also be included in the medical guarantee system in Germany and other European countries.
As a comprehensive joint hospital, the CDFH will be managed and operated by experienced international-renowned group company, recruiting Chinese and other countries' medical workers. Up till now, pre-project training has begun.
Applied by Tongji University in 2003, the CDFH attracted great attention from both governments, universities and enterprises. In the end of 2003, German Premier Schroder and Shanghai Mayor Hanzheng began to communicate by letters. In May 2004, the project was listed in one of the auxiliary projects of Shanghai Expo 2010. In 2005, CDHF was selected as one of the key projects of Two Sanitation under Shanghai's 11thFive-year plan. In August 2005, National Ministry of Education approved the project to the constructed led by Shanghai municipal Government.
