Jointly organized by Tongji and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the International Geotechnical Conference 2006 was held in Shanghai Crowne Plaza Hotel on the morning of June 6th. Over 400 representatives from 34 countries and districts attended the conference. It is the largest and highest-level international conference in this field held in China. Tongji standing vice president Li Yonghsheng attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcoming speech.
During the three-day-long conference, experts from China and abroad will get together and communicate about “Geotechnical practice and research ”, discussing geotechnical development trend and the mission of geotechnical engineers.
It is said that geotechnical engineers play an increasing important role in urban construction, the conference is to make scholars get familiar with latest research and methodology of modern geotechnical engineering.
