On June 9th, the opening ceremony of “Shanghai Ruan Yisan City Heritage Preservation Fund” was held at No. 50 Mo Ganshan Rd. Shanghai Vice Mayor Zhou Taitong, Tongji Vice President Yang Dongyuan, officials of UNESCO, leaders from Ministry of Construction and Shanghai Bureau of Urban Planning attended the ceremony.
As the first civil organization of preservation of historic and cultural heritage, the fund is to attract more social forces to be involved in city historic and cultural heritage preservation, to cooperate with governmental organizations and improve the management, scientific research, propaganda, talents training and academic communication of China city historic and cultural heritage.
The funds will be mainly used to support China’s city heritage preservation, including funding or awarding persons or organizations that have made great contributions to China’s city heritage preservation, carrying out scientific research, educational training and academic communication, purchasing, recovering and operating historic architecture, raising civilians’ consciousness of historical environment preservation through calling to government or offering information to citizens, collecting materials about relevant regions’ history and providing related information and technical support to the society. On June 10th, the first “Cultural Heritage Day ” in China, “Canal Memory” as the starting project of the fund was put into operation.
