Jointly sponsored by Tongji College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) and German Technical Cooperation Company (GTZ), the first International Seminar on “Harmonious City-Sustainable Development and Challenges” was held in Tongji. Attendants include Shanghai Vice Mayor Yang Xion, Tongji President Wan Gang, Vice director of Shanghai Expo Affairs Coordination Bureau Huang Jianzhi, Shanghai Expo general planner and dean of CAUP Wu Zhiqiang, head of Houkou District Yu Beihua, deputy general secretary of Tongji Party Committee Zhu Shaozhong.
Focusing on social segregation caused by city development and reconstruction, the development and improvement of living environment and city districts, changes of city job opportunities, the role of citizens in city management, the seminar provides a platform of exchanging views and opinions around the preparing for Shanghai Expo, Shanghai’s improvement of culture, space, society and society, the realization of four core objectives, and the construction and development of developing countries and cities under the influence of globalization.
