On September 2ndand 3rd, Tongji welcomed nearly 5,000 new faces. School leaders Zhou Jialun, Wan Gang, Li Yongsheng, Chen Xiaolong, and Ma Jinming looked in on new students respectively. A "green path" condoled poverty students and their parents.
Tongji prepared 300 schoolbags valued 300RMB, 120 pairs of shoes, 1,000 telephone cards par valued 30RMB, 1,000 rolls of books for poverty students. The temporary poverty fund for new students pay the tuition for part of poor students. The school decided to organized poverty students to apply for national loans in the first week of the new semester. It is also said the over 1.5 million assistantship fund has been contributed to help poor students. The school will also provide kinds of assistant job vacancy for them.
The help is also extended to parents. The school emptied gymnasiums, canteens, and rest rooms to accommodate thousands of parents. The newly gymnasium is also used as free accommodations. It is said that there are four free accommodations in Siping Campus. The school also contacted about ten hotels nearby, which offer shuttles and accommodations.
