Accompanied by Thierry MATHOU, French consul general in Shanghai, Mr. Hervé GAYMARD, former French Minister of Economy, Finane and Industry, paid a visit to Tongji on September 21st. Entrusted by French President, Mr, Gaymard is to look at China's education, civil servants training mechanism. The visit to Tongji is to get familiar with Tongji and Tongji-France College.
Vice president Li Yongsheng met Mr. Gamard. He points out that Tongji enjoys a long history with Europe and focuses on educational cooperation with Germany, France and other European countries. The China-France College of Engineering and Management sponsored by Tongji and Paris High-tech is one of the models. Mr. Gaymard asked about Tongji's policy in joint education programs, on-going projects, and the life and study of Tongji students.
After the meeting, Mr. Gaymard held talks with over 20 postgraduates from China-France College. Mr. Gaymard asked students' initiatives and study when joing China-France College, while the students questioning about college presidents' social status in France, graduates' future development, and France joint education program. Mr. Gaymard says that engineers have a high status in France. If it is a major greatly needed by the society, the graduates will have better career opportunities. France will proactively carry out external education cooperation, hoping to take it as a means for cultural communication and further understanding between countries.
After the talk, students' representatives delivered presents to Mr, Gaymard and Mr, Mathou.
