1st International Seminar on Service Life-span of Geotechnical Engineering Held in Tongji

October 19, 2006

Initiated by Tongji and Delft University Holland, the first International Seminar on the Service Life-span of Geotechnical Engineering was held in Tongji on October 19th. Tongji standing vice president Li Yongsheng attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Over ten experts from Holland, Germany, Austria and China carried out discussion around the whole life-span expecting mode of geotechnical engineering, the durability study of geotechnical structure, the inspecting technology and monitoring method of geotechnical engineering, the maintaining theory and method of geotechnical engineering, whole life-span design and cost control.

Sun Jun, Academician of CAS and Tongji Professor, and Prof. Wallaffin, professor from Delft University, assumed as the president of academic committee of the meeting. Numerous famous experts from China and abroad attended the meeting, including Chen Zhaoyuan, Liu Xila, Ru Jiping, SunWei, Tao Xuekang, Song Erxiang, and Jin Weiliang.

As the speeding up of economic development and urbanization, there are an increasing demand for large-scale, high-quality geotechnical engineering. Therefore it is a heat point about how to effectively enhance the durability and maintainability of the structure while meeting safety and applicability requirements of geotechnical structure. It is said that experts will carry out wide and deep discussion around those hot issues.
