Nokia China Research Center signed a cooperative agreement with the School of Electronics and Information Engineering of Tongji (SEIE) the other day. The signing conference was held on the Jiading Campus. Dr. Ma Jian, leading scientist of Nokia China Research Center and Prof. Jiang Changjun, dean of SEIE signed on the cooperative agreement on behalf of the respective party.
Over the past a couple of years, Nokia has shown its great interests in the researching results of SEIE on the computing grid system for traffic information service and the traffic navigation system based on mobile terminal technology, and expressed the intention of cooperation with SEIE. And SEIE shared the same thought, considering the future commercialization of its researching results.
Through several rounds of negotiation, a consensus was reached that Nokia was to found a "Nokia Tech Club" in SEIE, fund its operation and organize "Nokia Tech Innovation Contests"in Tongji. Nokia would also offer parts of its advanced intelligent pocket phones with PDA and some source codes of Symbian operating system with relevant data. It would provide technical trainings for Tongji students on embedded operating system and borrow a hand from Tongji Grid Technology Research Center to develop traffic navigation service system on the basis of Nokia intelligent phone and PDA. Besides, in future both parties may together submit proposals for international or bilateral joint research projects on issues of common concerns.
Before signing, Dr. Ma Jian and his companions visited SEIE and the laboratories. Dean Jiang gave introductions on SEIE and its current development concerning disciplines-construction, students training and foreign communication.
