The Prof. Yao Xi Elected the Foreign Academician of US National Academy of Engineering

The President of US National Academy of Engineering Woolf announced the additional list of academician in Washington on February 10. In all, 64 members were appended, including 9 foreign academicians from British, Canada, Spanish, Germany, and Yao Xi from China.

The declaration praised highly of Prof, Yao, “the engineering expert Yao Xi from China has made great contribution in electronic ceramics science and engineering innovation”. Prof. Yao, who began the research in ferroelectric ceramics in 1950s, is one of the founders in the ferroelectric ceramics in China.

Prof. Yao, born in Suzhou on September 28, 1935, graduated from Engineering Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In 1979, he became a Ph. D majored in Solid Science in Material Research Institute of Pennsylvania State University. He came back to China 1983 and was elected the first tutor of a Ph. D student in Electronic Material and Components by China Higher Education Ministry (Ministry of Education) one year later. In 1991, Prof. Yao Xi was elected the Member of Chinese Academy of Science. As a founder and pioneer in science of inorganic functional material and nanophase material science, he is now a professor in Tong Ji University, and the President of Functional Material Institute of Tong Ji.
