Li Lanqing Presented Seal Cuttings to Tong Ji

On the occasion of Tong Ji centennial, the “Li Lanqing Seal Cutting Art Exhibition” was opened in Teaching-research Building on May 10th.

Li Lanqing, official leaders of Shanghai, such as Xi Jinping, Han Zheng, Yin Yicun and Wang Zhongwei, school leaders and representatives from Shanghai education industry, art circles and our university attended the ceremony. The President Wan Gang delivered a speech at the ceremony.

On the exhibition, over 170m2seal cutting of various styles is put on display. Besides, some calligraphic works, essays, poems and compositions, as well as pictures and paintings were on show. From the first seal cutting work “ke jiao xing guo” (rejuvenate our country through science and education) reveals his deep concern about our nation and education system.

At the ceremony, Li Lanqing first briefly introduced his life experiences in learning and study seal cutting art, and expressed his hopes for the youth that they may understand and appreciate the connotation of Chinese culture and traditions. Later, he presented a cutting work “tong zhou gong ji” (pull together in times of trouble) and “tong zhou gong ji; zi qiang bu xi” (pull together in times of trouble; exert and strive hard without any let up) to the President Wan Gang. “The gift,” Present Wan said, “on the one hand, is the best wishes for the Tong Ji University. On the other hand, it is also encouragement and urgence to 50,000 students and teachers on campus and 250000 Tong Ji alumni. "
