Premier Wen Visit Tong Ji to Send Best Wishes

May 20, 2007

May 14th is a special day for all the students and the stuff of Tong Ji University: Premier Wen paid a visit to our university to send best regards on the occasion of 100th anniversaries.

Premier Wen first visited Students’ Hall. After showed around the technology innovation exhibition, Wen had a nice chat with the students. Knowing the understanding, exploration and research about the innovation, Wen was delighted and encouraged the students to step further. Then, Wen paid a visit to the School of Ocean and Earth Science. There the academician Wang Pinxian introduced the recent development of the School and the national-key subject and laboratory of the School.

Later, he went to CAUP and gave a lecture at Zhongting Hall. “I didn’t prepare in advance,” he said, “but in my opinion, a speech without any preparation may easily reflect the real intention. If I made any mistakes, I may ask for your forgiveness.”

In his speech, he said: Tong Ji trip was the first program during his visit in Shanghai this time. It is of two reasons: for one thing, several days later, Tong Ji will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Thus he just came here to deliver the best regards and wishes. For another thing, university occupies an important role in social and economic development. There are three aspects which are closely related to the social development: human beings, talent, people’s wisdom and soul; political and economic systems which could stimulate the activity and creativity of people; and scientific technology and innovation. All these three aspects are indispensable to people, talent and modern university.

At the end, Premier Wen expressed sincere hopes to Tong Ji: hold the notion of providing services to whole society, have specific characteristics of Tong Ji; bring up full-developed specialists; be open minded; be economical in university development.

“I hope”, Wen said, “at this special occasion, Tong Ji will carry forward its glorious history and traditions, step forward to enjoy a promising future.”

Before departure, Premier Wen took a joint photo with all the present students and teaching stuff.
