2005 Nobel Pysics Lureate Gve a Lcture in Tongji

July 15, 2007

Roy J. Glauber, the “father of light quantum”, 2005 Nobel physics laureate, professor of Harvard university came to Tongji on July 12th, and gave a lecture entitled “a century of light quantum” in 1. 29 Stadiums.

In his lecture, Prof. Glauber traced back to the origin of light quantum and its development over the past 100 years. “When talking about the science, curiosity is the greatest motivation”, Glauber said, “if a person have different ideas and special personality, and keeps asking why to the whole world, he will find out the answers to questions he is curious about.”

“If one wants to make breakthrough in scientific field, what kind of element is the most important?” for Prof. Glauber, he thinks two factors are important: one is a group of well-educated colleagues, who are engaged in scientific research; the other is world top labs and equipment. Later, he pointed out, the former is more important, because no matter in theoretic research or applied research, no achievement can be made by a single person. “Gold ideas come from talks and communications with other people”.
