Chairman of the Board of Volkswagen Group Dr. Winterkorn was awarded Honored Professor of Tongji. The conferring ceremony was held in Automobile Engineering Center recently. The vice President of Volkswagen, Dr. Hackenberg, who is responsible for the brand research and development, was awarded Guest Professor. The Ministry of Science and Technology and President of Tongji University Prof. Wan Gang and the vice president Chen Xiaolong, as well as other leaders of College of Automobile witnessed the ceremony.
Dr. Hackenberg, as the chairman of the Board of Volkswagen –Tongji Automobile College, was given overall charge of the cooperation programs between Volkswagen Group, Volkswagen Group China and Tongji University. He praised highly the great contribution that Tongji has made to the automobile engineering research and development. The seven cooperation programs run by both parties, he said, are in perfect situation.
The Volkswagen – Tongji Automobile School, established in 2000, sponsors some professorship majored in automobile research and development in Sino – German college. Beside, Volkswagen educational scholarship was set up to provide the students from poor families with financial aid.
