In the morning of August 16th, Prof. Pei Gang was nominated the new president of Tongji by Central Committee of Communist Party and State Department at Tongji leading officials and teacher representatives’ conference hosted by Zhou Jialun. The nomination was announced by Li Zhiyong, the vice-ministry of Organization Department of Central Committee of Communist Party. And the attendants included the ministry of Education Mr. Zhouji, the vice Party Secretary of Shanghai, the Ministry of Science and Technology and former president of Tongji Prof. Wan Gang and the ministry of Organization Department of Shanghai Shen Hongguang.
In his speech, the new president Prof. Pei said, the establishment of Tongji University 100 years ago marked the beginning of Chinese medical studies and life science. And nowadays, Tongji enjoys high reputation both home and abroad for its unique characters of combination of medicine and technology, and also the inosculation of arts and science. As the president of Tongji, he, for one thing, feels honor, and for anther, the heavy responsibility on his shoulders.
