To build a more comprehensive, research-oriented and internationalized university, Tongji University recently announced its Deanships employment to the whole world. The vacancy includes Deans of Medical School, College of Life Science and Technology College of Material Science and Engineering, College of Law & Politics, College of Mechanical Engineering, College of Foreign Languages and College of Communication and Arts.
The successful candidates will have leadership in enhancing educational programs, increasing research expenditures, building research groups in critical areas and forging strategic interdisciplinary collaborations. An earned doctorate in a relevant discipline is required, as is demonstrated potential for academic leadership, a strong record of scholarship, success in effective integration of research and teaching, and fluency in English or Chinese.
It is a reflection of the reform in human resource mechanism, said by the vice-president Zhou Zuyi. In the year 2003, Tongji University began its exploration in modern human resource management, and the directorship of different departments could accept resumes from all over the world. In 2005, similar measures were adopted into the professorships employment in various circles. Nowadays, more than 1/3 professors are foreigners every year, which without any doubt promote the development in teaching and research.
