Tongji University Host the Fourth Asia-Pacific Seminar on Sustainable Development

On the morning of September 18, the opening ceremony of the Fourth Seminar on Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region was held, on which President Pei Gang of Tongji University, Deputy Mayor Tan Ying of Suzhou City, and Mr. Shrestha, Director of the Asia-Pacific Office of the United Nations Environment Program delivered their respective speeches. Subsequently, the attendees discussed and exchanged ideas on how to balance economic development and environmental protection.

The tenet of the seminar was to enhance the future leaders’ ability of decision-making, percipience and judgment in the governments of Asia-Pacific region, the non-governmental organizations and private enterprises, and to enable students to face and resolve complex practical problems by harmonizing the relations between humanities, the environment and sustainable development. Over 230 people signed up in this seminar, and 31 of them were picked finally. According to statistics, the average age of these students was 31 years old, and they were from the 21 different countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific region.
