Co-hosted by Tongji University and GEOSNet, the 1stInternational Seminar on Geotechnical Safety and Risk was held in the Lecturing Hall of Sino-French Center on the morning of Oct. 18th. More than 200 experts from 16 different countries, such as the USA, Germany, France, the UK, etc, attended the meeting. Prof. Li Guoqiang, the Vice-President of the University, officials from GEOSNet and CCES addressed the conference.
The main sessions during the 2-day seminar include the uncertainty and variability of the geotechnical engineering, reliability and risk analysis of geotechnical engineering, the design specification based on geotechnical risk, the risk evaluation and management of geotechnical and underground construction.
The keynote speeches are given by more than 10 experts from home and abroad, including Prof. Qian Qihu, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
It is introduced that to face contemporary challenge, a platform is in urgent need in the exchange and cooperation among the research staff, engineers, educators and government officials. And the international geotechnical safety net set up couple of days ago is to provide such a platform, and the seminar is to further develop the Net and the research in geotechnical safety and risk management.
