On the morning of January 19th, Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng talked with the British Prime Minister Brown in Xi Jiao Hotel. After the talks, Mayor Han Zheng and Prime Minister Brown both presented themselves at the signature ceremony of "China's sustainable development of eco-city project design, implementation and financing memorandum of understanding". Zhou Zuyi, executive deputy secretary also vice president as the representative of our university signed documents with representatives of SIIC (Shanghai Industrial Investment Co., Ltd), Arup Inc, HSBC Bank and SDCL.
According to this memorandum, China and Britain will jointly develop eastern end of Chongming island into the first eco-city of sustainable development in the world, and the parties concerned will cooperate in establishing Eastern End Academe, which will be the” think tank” of development of eco-city, participate in international intelligence resource cooperation, explore and deepen solution scheme of eco-city system in practice and gradually become a top center of sustainable development and training and an important eco-tech innovation base in the world. Tongji University will supply theories, techniques and talented persons for the sustainable eco-city development, and originate international forum on sustainable development of Eastern End just like World Economic Forum.
Zhou Zuyi and Professor Zhu Dajian from School of Economy and Management, after the signature ceremony, were invited to present themselves on the luncheon arranged by Mayor Han Zheng for Prime Minister Brown.
