On the afternoon of January 20th, Prof. Zhou Jialun, the Chairman of University Council met the delegacy of Thailand’s Civilian committee led by Mr. Preecha Vajrabhaya, Secretary-general of this committee, accompanied by Mr. Chalit Manityakul, Thailand consul general in Shanghai.
The aim of the delegacy’s visiting was to know how the Thailand government scholarship project gets along in China and to make first-phase preparation for dispatching the third group of Thailand government scholarship gainers. Assistant president Dong Qi also attended the meeting.
Prof. Zhou Jialun looked back the connection and cooperation between our university and Thailand in recent years, introduced the general situations of receiving Thailand government scholarship gainers and their studying and living conditions, praised these students’ spirit of diligence, unity and love, expressed wishes to provide these students with education service of good quality, and trusted that they will, after their graduation, make positive contributions to Thailand’s social and economic development and Sino-Thailand friendship. He also figured that Tongji University is ready to receiving more students from Thailand.
Secretary-general Mr. Preecha Vajrabhaya representing Thailand’s Civilian committee was grateful for the care and education received by Thailand government scholarship gainers from Tongji University. He said that the selection of the third group of scholarship gainers would begin at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, expected to make Thailand students know more about Tongji University and also expected that more Thailand students would study in Tongji University.
Prof. Dong Qi, the Assistant President made additional introduction of situations of Thailand government scholarship project in our university. He said that, in the process of selection of new student, if necessary for Thailand, Tongji University will provide assistance and coordination, and suggested that two best Thailand scholarship gainers studying in Tongji University should be sent back to popularize and introduce their own experience of studying in Shanghai and their travelling expenses be paid by our university.
After the meeting, the delegacy of Thailand’s Civilian committee had an informal discussion in the assembly room of Yifu Building with more than 60 Thailand scholarship gainers studying in Shanghai, and Mr. Rathakit Manathat, Thailand ambassador in China also attended this discussion. In the evening, the delegacy of Thailand’s Civilian committee treated these students in Sanhaowu restaurant of our university.
