International Seminar on China was Creating the future Streets held in Tongji

On March 22th, the International Seminar onChinawas Creating the future Streets,which was co-organized by Institute pour la Ville en Movement (IVM) and Tongji University was held in College of Architecture and Urban planning of Tongji University. In the seminar, more than 10 specialists from China, France and Germany made speech aimed at searching how to bring streets planning into new urban space design and administration in China and find out all kinds of theoretical methods and influence of multi-party originators.

Prof. Tang Zilai, Dean of Urban Planning Department of Tongji and Mr. Firth, secretary-general of IVM addressed for the seminar opening ceremony. Prof. Dolet from Université de Provence and Prof. Pan Haixiao from our university presided the seminar successively. This seminar comprised two sub-themes ofCity-mode and Street-mode: Seeking Development of Chinese StyleandStreet’s Administration and Using. Specialists shared research achievements and practical experiences of China and France with the audience on the two sub-themes pointing against the problems as life-function defects of urban streets caused by motorization and singularization of space function. At the same time, teachers and students present discussed warmly with experts about how to use and manage the streets’ space. This seminar achieved favorable effect through communication.

This seminar was one of the significant parts ofStreets is OursGlobal Exhibition Activity. The Global Exhibition was held from March 21th to April 6thin Shanghai Zhengda Museum of Modern Art. Other activities such as public forum, children’s handwork house, artists’ guide and parent-child teaching were also held at that time.
