On April 12th, the 5thSAIC Education CupShanghaiuniversity students’ technological innovative works exhibition and competition activity were held in Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. Among nearly 300 works, Sun Bin and several other students’ work theLab-madeUnmanned Automatic Obstacle-avoiding Experimental Carwon the first prize of scientific and technological innovative works and their guiding teacher Liu Fuqiang got the honorable tutoring prize. Ma Jinming, the Vice-Secretary of the University Party Committee and principals of the university League Committee attended the awarding Ceremony and the work demonstration.
These 300 participating works came from 21 universities in Shanghai covering many subjects as mechanical engineering, electronic information, biology, chemistry, economics, management, social science and designing. Our participating work theLab-madeUnmanned Automatic Obstacle-avoiding Experimental Carwas designed by students Sun Bin, Yang Yu, Zhu Wenhong, Lai Peiyuan, Lu Ning, etc from the Wideband Wireless Communication and Multimedia Lab of Telecommunication College under the guidance of Prof. Liu Fuqiang. The video navigation system of the car took advantage of the computer vision to complete the identification of roads environment, obstacle detection, acquisition of traffic parameters. Combined with control system, the navigation system assisted the control of the car. It provided the driver and passengers with driving support and warning so as to lessen the driver’s mental load. Applied in automatic safe driving, this technique would made cars safer and more intelligent in recent period, and would realize unmanned driving of the cars in the future.
Since it’s coming out last May, the car has been reported by CCTV and several news media. This time after the exhibition of the improved model, the car attracted attention of many news media including Shanghai TV Station and citizens once again.
