After the serious earthquake in Wenchuan of Sichuan Province, teachers and students in our university took actions immediately and organized some disaster relief activities. Foreign students in Tongji also expressed their desire to make a contribution for the disaster relief work.
Several students in the UNEP-Environment and Sustainable Development College of Tongji University inquire their teachers about the disaster relief activities held in our university actively and expressed their desire to participate. The Turkish student Sai Fang in College of Humanities said,” Turkey has also suffered from the earthquake. She could understand the feeling of the Chinese people at this moment. She was willing to participate in the disaster relief activities held in our university.” 15 Yemenese students sent the Sympathy Expressing Letter to the Foreign Students Office. In the letter they wrote,” We expressed the consolation for Chinese people, Chinese Government and victims of the earthquake in Sichuan in Yemenese students’ name. We were as sorrowful as the Chinese people.” They also listed their blood types in the letter and were willing to donate blood for the earthquake-stricken people. They volunteered to participate in the disaster relief work.
At the present time, a surge to donate money was begun among foreign students.
