On the afternoon of May 17th, the 2ndPlenary Session of the 1stTongji University Board of Directors’ Meeting was held at Sino-French Center. Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of CPPCC, Minister of Science and Technology and former President of Tongji, Wang Guangtao, former Minister of Construction and Tongji Alumni, Wu Qidi, member of NPC Standing Committee and former President of Tongji, Zhou Jialun, Secretary of University Party Committee and President of the University Board of Directors, the University President Pei Gang and leaders of every department attended the meeting. The University Vice President Zhao Jianfu presided over the meeting.
Pei Gang made the university annual working report in which he raised the issue of developing and constructing the disciplines of life science and medical science especially. He said, reviving the medical science of Tongji and finding out a suitable way was a significant strategic and tactical issue. He thought Tongji medical science should develop in a small and exquisite pattern instead of a large and comprehensive one.
During the meeting, members of University Board of Directors reviewed the annual working report and discussed about the future development and construction of the University and promotion of the disciplines of life science and medical science. Wan Gang, Wu Qidi, Wang Guangtao and Wu Xiangming addressed at the meeting respectively. They put out their opinions on Tongji’s development confronting with the problems of population and environment in the 21stc. The University should participate in the country’s construction and adjust the disciplines’ setting so as to realize the balance of strong disciplines and traditional disciplines. Besides, we should increase the quality of undergraduate teaching and introduce German top grade professors relying on the exchange and cooperation with Germany.
