African Countries Young Environment Leaders Seminar opened in Tongji

On May 18th, the opening ceremony of African Countries Young Environment Leaders Seminar was held in College of UN Sustainable Development, Tongji University. This two-week program emphasized environment protection, resource management and disaster prevention and mitigation with sustainable development as the focus. 25 students from 19 African countries attended the opening ceremony. Zhao Jianfu, Vice President of Tongji University and Dean of College of UN Sustainable Development, Qian Han, Deputy Chief of CSTEC International Talents Training Department of Ministry of Science and Technology and Dr. Mohamed A. S. Abdel-Monem, African Representative of United Nations Environment Programme addressed at the ceremony respectively.

This program was organized according to the commitment that China promised to support African and other developing countries and was subsidized by National Ministry of Science and Technology and United Nations Environment Programme. United Nations Environment Programme-College of UN Sustainable Development and UN Environment Programme Office in African jointly carried out the program.

During the ceremony, all the conventioneers gave one-minute silent salute to the victims in Sichuan Wenchuan earthquake firstly. The persons concerned also introduced the basic situation of this earthquake to the students.
