The hydrogen fuel cell cars manufactured independently by Chinese went to Olympiad from the lab. As the important members of the Beijing Olympic green cars, these 20 Passat hydrogen fuel cell carswere manufactured after a serial of testing. 5 of them had arrived Beijing on June 20thas advance team, and the other 15 were also packed and ready for off. These 20 cars were manufactured by ShanghaiVoldswagen Automotive Co. Ltd. Tongji University,ShanghaiFuel Cell Vehicle Powertrain Co. Ltd. andShanghaiAutomotive Industry Corporation Group (SAIC Group) provided the powertrains.
With the other 500 electric vehicles, these cars will be used as public service cars in the Olympic Center, realizing the zero emission in the core area of the Olympic Village. This kind of fuel cell vehicles had passed a series of strict testing for safety, reliability and durability and received the national license.
On the afternoon of July 6th, the departure ceremony of the cars was held at the Clean Energy Automotive EngineeringCenterof Tongji University (CEAEC) on Jiaidng Campus. Vice Chairman of the CPPCC and Minister for Science and Technology Wan Gang, deputy mayor of Shanghai Ai Baojun addressed at the ceremony. These 20 cars using the model of Passat cars and the latest technology of fuel cell vehicle powertrain were developed by the automobile enterprises. Compared with the previous model, the degree of the engineering and product forming of this model were much higher. In order to guarantee the safety and reliability, the first 5 cars had finished the running test of 3000km and the other 15 cars also completed the similar test.
These 20 cars will perform the shuttle service for the honored guests, reporters and officials of the Olympic Committee. It was introduced that some members of the cars’ research and development team will set off for Beijing today and provide technical support for the cars during the Olympics.
