Xiang’e Primary School Assisted by Tongji Started Reconstruction at the End of July

Xiang’e Primary School of Dujiang Dam City assisted by Tongji was scheduled to start the reconstruction work at the end of July in order to achieve the goal of putting it into service on September next year. At the present time, the research and design experts of related units and sections were busy with the preparatory work.

The local Education Bureau decided that Xiang’e Primary School would cover 20 mu and the building area would be 5300 sq.m. according to the school development plan. Tongji architects suggested expanding the floor area and building area to 25 mu and 6100 sq.m. respectively according to the numbers of students and classes as well asArchitectural Design Guide Rules of Wenchuan Reconstruction Schools.

Ken Wang, architectural expert and Zhuang Xiaojun, structural expert from FII of Forestry Administration for British Columbia, Canada attended the meeting and survey.

On July 12th, Tongji project group carried out the project approval and assessment work of Xiang’e Primary School after communicating with Shanghai headquarter, local planning bureau Education Bureau and other related departments. On July 13th, the concerning parties held on-site work meeting communicating and coordinating on concrete work.

From July 17th, the comprehensive assessment for the design proposal began, including listening to the suggestions and comments from Xiang’e Township Government and representatives of the school. On July 20th,three supplies and one leveling(supply of water, electricity and road and leveled ground) were finished.

At the present time, the construction organizations and project supervisors have been chosen. The commencement ceremony will be held at the end of July.
