From August 15thto 23rd, Janet International Ballet Competition was held in Toronto, Canada. Lin Hongtao, a sophomore of Tongji University majoring in dancing, won a silver trophy and Xu Yaxuan, a sophomore, won a bronze trophy, which was the best result of Tongji students in international ballet competition of past years.
This competition has a long history and the 1stcompetition was held in 1931; the initiator is Dame Adeline Genee. In 2008, more than 500 students from more than 80 countries achieved excellent scores in the rank examination, and 54 of them, through sifting, came into the semi-finals including five Tongji students majoring in dancing in School of Film: Hua Xia, Xu Yaxuan, Zhang Xiaoyu, Wang Chen and Lin Hongtao.
