On September 26th, Dr. Johannes Hahn, Director of Austria Federal Ministry of Science and Research led a delegation to visit Tongji University, accompanied by Austrian ambassador in China, Austrian consul-general in Shanghai, delegates of Austrian universities and foundations. The University Vice-President Chen Yiyi met with the guests. He introduced the general situation of Tongji University and our external cooperation, especially that with Austria. After the meeting, Prof. Kaiser, Vice-President of Vienna University of Technology exchanged views with Chen Yiyi about the cooperative doctoral training project and signed the cooperative agreement. Subsidized by Eurasia-Pacific Uninet, this project was supposed to open in autumn semester 2009.
In 2005, Tongji signed the first cooperation agreement on research and exchange with Vienna University of Technology. In 2009, the two sides jointly hosted the International Symposium on Computational Structural Engineering.
