On April 20, Vice President Wu Jiang of Tongji University met with Vice President KyuJung Whang of Cornell University, introducing our research on sustainable development including energy saving campus. Vice President Wu invited professors from Cornell to participate in the teaching of sustainable development courses, as part of curriculum for the undergraduate students and proposed the cooperation fields of architecture and urban planning, economics and management, civil engineering and humanities and social sciences.
Prof. You Jianxin from the School of Economics and Management introduced the School’s research on sustainable development and expressed the wish to strengthen the cross-disciplinary cooperation with Cornell University on low carbon emission and the green city through the regular exchange and establishment of sustainable development enterprise center. He mentioned particularly the forum on Green Innovation Model: Our Solutions to be co-organized by Cornell University, Tokyo University and Tongji University in July 2011 and said we could make use of this forum to work out the preliminary cooperation proposal.
Assistant President Wu Zhiqiang summarized the talk and concluded that the cooperation can be carried out in the form of the joint research project, curriculum development, student exchange, cross-disciplinary double master degree and joint research center, adding that EMBA students from Tongji could first go to the United States to receive the lectures on sustainable development. Vice President KyuJung Whang showed his support to the cooperation between the two universities.
