In the morning of May 8, the “2012 Sino-Finnish Pedagogical Training” program began with 2 teachers from Aalto University, Finland giving lectures on “pedagogics for teaching in English” in Sino-Finnish Centre. 20 key teachers from different schools of our university took part. The PEDA program was another outcome of cooperation between Tongji and Aalto following the establishment of Sino-Finnish Centre.

Initiated in April 2011, the Sino-Finnish Pedagogical Training program aimed to learn from Aalto University its rich and diverse-background-directed teaching experience and methods, so as to improve the teaching ability of our teachers in giving specialized courses to students at home and abroad in English. It could better facilitate the implementation of our international talents training strategy, which was represented by “Excellent Engineer Training Program”, in order to cultivate our excellent talents in a brand-new teaching philosophy and method.
Last April, experienced teachers from Aalto University came to give relevant training for 60 excellent teachers from almost 20 schools of our university. Afterwards, there were two groups, altogether 20 teachers, went separately to Aalto University last May and November for a one-week in-depth pedagogical training, pairing and exchanging with teachers there.

Last November, on behalf of Tongji University, Vice President Wu Jiang signed an MOU on Sino-Finnish Pedagogical Training Program with Aalto University. This marked the establishment of a longer and more stable cooperative relationship on PEDA program between these two universities. During the next three years, Tongji will select excellent teachers to participate in this program.
According to the arrangement of the new round training program, Tongji will choose 15 teachers out of 20 participants of this first-phase training, and send them to Finland to get the second-phase training and exchange.

In addition, the Personnel Division of Tongji will select outstanding classroom teachings throughout the campus to be model courses, and add them to the training program of our “Centre for Faculty Development”. Thus, we could make more teachers benefit from this PEDA program, improve the teaching ability of our teachers gradually and better the quality of talent cultivation in Tongji.
