From July 25th to 29th, Tongji delegation led by Vice President Chen Yiyi, accompanied by staff in Academic Affaires Office, visited UC Berkeley, UC Office of the President and UC Davis and held “United States Bay Area Higher Education Seminar” together with alumni and Chinese professors there. In UC Berkeley, they talked with Tongji students studying there.
During their visit in UC Berkeley, Prof. Chen first talked with Prof. Ronald Gronsky, Special Faculty Assistant to the Chancellor for International Relations about follow-up work around “Tongji-Berkeley Alliance” and “Tongji-Berkeley Center”. Then, Tongji delegation met with Mrs. Alix Schwartz, Director of Academic Planning Undergraduate Division and Mrs. Lean Carroll, Director of Office of Undergraduate Research, gaining understanding about Berkeley’s general education curriculums, Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program management mechanism and research-oriented learning development, from which lessons could be drawn to facilitate Tongji’s curriculum reform and combination of research and teaching.
