The evening of September 21st witnessed The Opening Ceremony of 2015 Art Festival and Welcoming Party for the Freshmen held in the university auditorium on Siping Campus. Present at the ceremony were Vice Party Secretary of Tongji Universitym Ma Jingming, Vice President Wu Jiang, Vice Party Secretary of Tongji University Xu Jianping and officials from the Promotion Department, Student Center, Teachers Union, the University League Committee and International School in addition to nearly 3,000 new students.
Accompanied by an inspiring drumbeat and the waving arms of the audience, the party began with the songFly Your Dream in Tongji, expressing the brimming happiness and passion shared by every single beating heart of this year’s freshmen. The party offered a beautiful and grand spectacle of Tongji University from various aspects including the university’s rich history, daily campus and the school motto: “With one heart, with one dream and with the same future. For the people, for whole world and for the same planet.”
In the first part of the party namedTongji Time Machine, the students’ dance troupe performed a beautiful classical dance namedDiZiGui(Standards for Students). The performers illustrated the classic by creating a retro atmosphere where they acted as students in ancient times. They wagged their heads, carefully decorated books made of bamboo in their hands, bowed and requited with hands folded together in front to each other, thus vividly reviving the Confucian classics and disciples which are deeply rooted in every student’s heart. This also taught the freshmen of Tongji University a lesson that one should inherit Chinese traditional culture while living a modern life.
The modern dance “Between” by the students majoring in ballet unfolded during the second part of the party named “Memories of Youth Spent in Tongji.”Their movement and posture flexibly changed between power and connotation, between day and night, and between tranquility and vitality—thus, demonstrating the most beautiful youth, as well as the determination of working in unity. With the guidance of the experts, they enjoyed the spotlight of the party.
The third part with the theme: “Keep Your Dream Going in Tongji” was unveiled in the instrumental performance“Defend the Yellow River” by the campus Traditional Instruments Orchestra. With the notes going up and down, the music was both exciting while exquisite as it portrayed the suffering and eventful years showcased in the performance, which was worth being remembered by every member of Tongji University.
The party reached its climax as the freshman resoundingly sang the school song under the guidance of the Student Choir. The university serves as a new start and a vital milestone of one’s life and the party has vividly shown the freshmen what the members of Tongji have been dedicated in and still pursuing. Tongji, the sweet home, is comprehensive enough to let the world-wide students with distinctive dreams pursue the knowledge, youth and vitality for which they have been longing. The beauty of Tongji is vividly demonstrated in every blade of grass and every tree, as well as in every person’s heart. The members of Tongji are ready to create a promising and glorious tomorrow.
