Timing to coincide with the start of the 40th Arbor Day in China on March 12, 2018, representatives from Tongji University presented two camphor trees to two Tongji’s affiliated experimental schools. XU Jianping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tongji University, attended the tree-transplant ceremony.

XU, along with the teachers and students from the recipient schools, participated in the flag-raising ceremony with the theme of ‘Sowing the Seeds of Dreams – Generation to Generation’. Meanwhile, they watched the performances acted by students under the national flag, including Cherishing the Goodness Together, Wish Trees Grow Quick, and If I Were a Small Tree, where demonstrated students’ sense of responsibility of loving the country, protecting the environment, and making their campus a better place for study.

The two camphor trees are from the Jiading Campus of Tongji University. They are about 20 years old and nearly 40cm in diameter. When planting the trees, XU, together with teachers, students and parents from the schools, earthed up the soil, watered the trees and reinforced the surface. At the same time, under the guidance and assistance of the head teacher and parent volunteers, the students also picked up tools to work together to hoe the field, fill the ground and water the trees. Thanks to their joint efforts, the camphor trees finally stood upright in the wind and appeared verdant, adding the vitality of spring to the campus.
