Tongji University concert performed online and offline with the National Day theme of “Monument”

On the evening of September 30, beautiful melodies were played in 129 Auditorium at the Siping Campus, and the Tongji University concert was performed with the National Day theme of “Monument,” both online and offline. Teachers and students praised our great nation with melodious tweedle and affectionate songs, expressing their sincere patriotism. This is one of the series of Tongji’s activities under the theme of “Light of Dream and Road to Truth” to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, which  also served as the prelude of the 2020 Art Festival of Tongji University.

Tongji University CPC Committee Secretary FANG Shouen, Vice Secretaries XU Jianping, WU Guangming, FANG Ping and FENG Shenhong, along with Vice President LEI Xinghui attended the concert and watched the performance together with teachers and students. FANG Shouen delivered his speech and announced the opening of 2020 Art Festival of Tongji University.

FANG Shouen said that the concert composed, performed, and watched by Tongji teachers and students was a tribute to those who died for the founding the China and the 71st Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China; and  an affectionate call to the nation. It was the first performance held at Tongji University after the normal teaching order was restored during COVID-19, which was endowed with special significances. Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. To pay tribute to this special occasion, Tongji University will hold a series of activities under the theme of “Light of Dream and Road to Truth.” He hoped that teachers and students can participate actively in these activities to build their shared spiritual home. Finally, he extended his greetings of National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival on behalf of Tongji University to all faculty members and students and wished them a happy holiday, smooth work, academic progress, and good physical health.

The National Day themed concert was performed by teachers and students of the School of Arts and Media. At the beginning of the concert, CHEN Jia from the Tongji University Student Orchestra presented a soulful string ensemble My Motherland and Me . Later in the performance, a male solo of Snow and My Motherland by undergraduate WANG Baopeng, a violin solo of Monument by teacher QI Lin, a piano solo of Birds Pay Homage to the King by undergraduate student LI Huixue, female solos of Azalea and I Love this Land by teacher WANG Yida, a flute solo by undergraduate student HOU Xinling, a violin solo by teacher SHEN Ting, a double piano performance by LI Huixue and teacher QI Huan, and two piano performances with eight hands of Defend the Yellow River by four teachers, QI Huan, SUI Xin, WANG Xilan and ZHANG Chi were displayed successively. The tweedle and songs, whether passionate, soothing, or joyful, conveyed the sincere love for the motherland constantly pushing the concert atmosphere to its climax. The audience listened attentively and echoed the performances with burst of applauses from time to time.

Stay true to where you started and keep moving forward. The most beautiful road is the road to Chinese rejuvenation. Youthful China, Chinese youth, the human world has our eastern hymn, the hymn in the east. As the concert finale, the 1907 Chamber Choir of Tongji performed the chorus of Never Forget the Original Heart and Youthful China with teacher ZHU Yang as conductor. Finally, all the teachers and students waved their national flags and sang the song Ode to the Motherland in unison.

After the performance, FANG Shouen and other leaders took to the stage and shook hands with the teachers and students who participated in the performance.
