On September 23, Jiaxing and Tongji University Deepening Cooperation Conference was held at Jiaxing Municipal People's Government. Tongji Party Secretary FANG Shouen and CPC Jiaxing Municipal Committee Secretary ZHANG Bing delivered their speeches at the meeting. Tongji President CHEN Jie, Executive Vice President WU Jiang, President of Tongji Zhejiang College DONG Qi, and CPC Jiaxing Committee leaders MA Yongliang, ZHU Yawei, XING Haihua, and AO Kaoquan attended the meeting.

FANG Shouen said in his speech that Jiaxing is the place where the revolutionary Red Boat sailed and where the Spirit of the Red Boat was born. As the Party’s centenary is approaching, the exchanges and talks between Tongji University and Jiaxing on deepening their cooperation are of great significance. In recent years, Tongji University has continued to move towards becoming a comprehensive, research-oriented, and world-class modern university. While the leading disciplines continue to remain strong, new disciplines such as New Energy Vehicles, Artificial Intelligence, and Rail Transit have also made considerable progress. Tongji and Jiaxing have a solid foundation for cooperation. They signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement in 2017 and have established a profound friendship in the subsequent cooperation. New situations, tasks, and requirements call for new development, actions, and responsibilities. During their talks, the University and the Municipal Government communicated and developed ideas laying a good foundation for enhancing the cooperation further. It is hoped that both parties will take the talks as a fresh starting point, focusing closely on the country’s new requirements for higher education, the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and Zhejiang and Jiaxing’s economic and social development. To build Tongji University as a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, both parties should foster further their cooperation and push forward the university-locality cooperation.

ZHANG Bing expressed his sincere thanks to Tongji University for its long-term support and assistance to the development of Jiaxing, especially the development of higher education. He said that Jiaxing and Tongji University have a good foundation for their cooperation. In the course of more than ten years' education cooperation, the two parties have established a deep friendship and have yielded fruitful results. The talks between Jiaxing City and Tongji University this time are of great significance for both sides. For Jiaxing, they play an important role for its high-quality and innovation-driven development for the next steps, and the creation of a future-oriented innovative new city. For Tongji University, they are significant for expanding the space for development, enhancing comprehensive strength, and building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. He emphasized not only does the in-depth cooperation between Jiaxing and Tongji University have a solid foundation, but it also has broad development prospects which reflect a long-term strategic vision. He hoped both parties will take the exchanges and talks as a brand new starting point and open a new chapter of cooperation. Both must enhance their cooperation based on the idea and principle of "What the Country Needs, What Jiaxing Wants, and What Tongji Can Do," serving the implementation of the integrated development of Yangtze River Delta and Jiaxing's local economic and social development, thus creating a model of school-locality cooperation.
At the meeting, WU Jiang introduced Tongji University's reform and plans for further cooperation between both parties. Before the talks began, FANG Shouen, CHEN Jie, and WU Jiang visited the Memorial Hall of Revolution at Nanhu Lake and paid tribute to the Red Boat, the site of the First National Congress of the CPC.
