A letter of thanks from the Chinese Consulate General in Hamburg of Germany arrived at Tongji University on September 23, thanking our University for its strong support of a recent seminar on cooperation between universities in China and North Germany.
According to the letter, with the strong support of Tongji University, the Consulate-General in Hamburg, and the Education Office of the Chinese Embassy in Germany held a joint online seminar on cooperation between universities in China and North Germany before its online reception to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Heads of 15 universities in China and North Germany participated at the seminar. Tongji Vice President WU Zhiqiang attended the seminar and delivered his speech, which received unanimous praise from the participants.
The letter spoke high of Tongji University for its implementing the spirit of XI Jinping's series of speeches in preparations for the Conference, with a high political standing, strong commitment, much initiative, and a high sense of responsibility. They expressed their respect and sincere thanks to Vice President WU Zhiqiang, Professor CAI Lin, and Professor YUN Yue of Tongji University for their participation at the event.
At the seminar, Vice President WU Zhiqiang told the audience that the name of the university "Tongji" originated from the homophony of "Deutsch (German)" in Shanghai dialect, meaning "together in the same boat" in Chinese. The outstanding achievements made by Tongji University in its cooperation with Germany over the years are inseparable from the sincere support by its German partners. The Sino-German Faculty of Tongji University is committed to promoting high-level Sino-German cooperation 4.0 in the joint cultivation of doctoral students, conducting joint research projects, and performing joint project practices. When four Sino-German research centers with four German partner universities were in place last year, we look forward to an in-depth cooperation with universities in North Germany in the future.
