Shanghai College Students’ Chemistry Experiment Competition organized by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission aims to assess the effectiveness of undergraduate chemistry experiment teaching, share experience in experiment teaching reform, and exchange ideas and ways of cultivating innovative chemical talents. A total of 51 students from 17 universities participated in this year’s competition, including Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China Normal University, and East China University of Science and Technology. According to the competition rules, each year participants are randomly selected from the list of students majoring in chemistry in various colleges and universities by the organizing committee through drawing lots online. Once the students are chosen, they are not allowed to be replaced. The competition consists of a 2.5-hour written chemistry experiment theory test and an 8-hour practical chemistry experiment operation, focusing on the participants’ professional ability to do experiments. After taking the written test, each participant needs to draw lots to determine their experimental subject from the three subjects of inorganic and analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry. The written test and the experiment operation account for 30% and 70% of the total score respectively.
