On November 22, the fib Symposium 2020 of the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib) was held in Shanghai both online and offline. At the opening ceremony, fib President Mr. Tor Ole Olsen presented the Honorary Life Member award to Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician and College of Civil Engineering Professor LU Xilin. The honor was given to him in recognition of his academic achievements in his theoretical research and engineering application of concrete structures, as well as “his significant personal contributions to the work of the fib”. The fib selects one Honorary Life Member every year. Academician LU Xilin is the first Chinese scholar to receive such an award from the fib.

The online fib this year is being hosted by Tongji University. It is also the first time for the fib to enter China, which means that China will further its innovative research, exchange, and cooperation in concrete materials and structures with other countries, and will enhance the scientific research and practical engineering applications of concrete structures. Distinguished professors attended the conference and delivered speeches, including the University Vice President and fib Symposium 2020 Steering Committee Chairman GU Xianglin, Institute of Building Structures of China Academy of Building Research Deputy Director, fib Symposium 2020 Academic Committee Co-Chairman and fib Chinese Group Chairman FENG Dabin, and Tongji’s College of Civil Engineering Dean and fib Symposium 2020 Steering Committee member Prof. ZHAO Xianzhong.
