The 2020 "SCIP+" Green Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest continued the theme of Green Manufacturing Changes the World, Chemical Engineering Creates the Future. On basis of projects collected in the first round, the contest was combined with the enterprise demand and project construction this year. The contest was organized jointly by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China, Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, and East China University of Science and Technology. Contestants totaling 27 enterprise designated proposition units were provided, including air quality detection and improvement, plastic recycling, artificial intelligence and biotechnology application, intelligent waste identification and classification system, and hazardous chemical data communication and sharing. A total of 387 teams from 28 provinces and cities throughout China and 6 foreign countries registered for the competition, covering 110 universities and 140 enterprises composed of 247 teams in the Entrepreneurial Innovation Group and 140 teams in the Entrepreneurial Practice Group. From the selections during the preliminary and final rounds, 62 teams (32 from the Entrepreneurial Innovation Group+25 from the Entrepreneurial Practice Group+5 from the French Division) entered the semi-final round. The semi-final round was then held in the form of online roadshows, with the top 3 from the Innovation and Practice Groups entering the final "Competing for the Gold Medal" competition.

On and off the stage

Under the guidance of teachers and relying on the support of Tongji’s Electronic Chemistry Laboratory, the Tongxin Smart Chip Manufacturing team developed the first localized polybenzoxazole (PBO) photoresist for chip packaging based on the development strategy of national semiconductor industry and chip localization in the final competition. Third-party authoritative testing institutions found the products developed by the team not only met the needs of the packaging industry, but even exceeded some of the mainstream commercial photoresists in some key indicators. The project was evaluated and praised by the judges and the audience for its innovation, ability to be synthesized in a green way, and broad application prospect. It was awarded the "LANXESS" Enterprise Designation Prize and won First Prize in the Entrepreneurial Innovation Group.
