On December 30, the first council meeting of the Tongji University Jiading Basic Education Group (TUJBEG) was held at the Jiading Campus. Jiading District Deputy Magistrate WANG Hao, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission (SMEC) Basic Education Division Director YANG Zhenfeng, SMEC Former Deputy Inspector and Director YANG Guoshun, and Tongi University Executive Vice President WU Jiang, attended the meeting. Leaders from Jiading District Education Bureau (JDEB), Anting Town Government, Shanghai International Automobile City (Group) Co., Ltd., SAIC Volkswagen Co., Ltd., SAIC Passenger Vehicle Company, Shanghai Vanke also attended the meeting which was chaired by the JDEB Director YAO Wei.

The JDEB Deputy Director LI Juan introduced the historical background and cooperation of the TUJBEG. At the moment, the TUJBEG is composed of an experimental kindergarten, a primary, and a middle school. The current TUJBEG council is reorganized after the term of the original council expired. The meeting adopted the Council’s constitution, and decided upon the list of its directors and deputy directors. WUJiang will servei as the TUJBEG’s first director,and WANG Haoand and YANG Guoshun as deputy directors. Tongji University, JDEB, the Anting Town Government, Shanghai International Automobile City (Group) Co., Ltd., SAIC Volkswagen Co., Ltd., and SAIC Group Passenger Vehicle Co. will become its unit directors, and YANG Zhenfeng will be appointed as a TUJBEG consultant.
The TUJBEG was established
Tongji University, Jiading District Education Bureau, Anting Town Government and Shanghai International Automobile City (Group) Co., Ltd. signed the Memorandum of Cooperation to further the co-construction of the TUJBEG. At the meeting, a signing ceremony was also held for Shanghai Vanke to support the cooperation between Tongji University and the Jiading District.

TUJBEG Development Plan was introduced at the meeting. The leaders of the Experimental Kindergarten, Primary and Middle schools gave their briefing of the five-year achievements and future development plans. Over the past five years, the schools affiliated to TUJBEG have taken "bringing the best out of every child" as their education philosophy and become increasingly dynamic thanks to the innovative mechanism of the Council and Jiading’s quality education with rich cultural deposits. They have won many titles including Shanghai’s first batch of project-based seed experimental schools, project experimental schools of "research and practice of comprehensive curriculum creativity with district characteristics" in Shanghai, and demonstration schools and the "Innovation Award" winners of comprehensive education reform in Jiading District. In addition, based on the century-old history and culture of Tongji, the schools have set good examples with Tongji characteristics in comprehensive education reform and consecutive education among primary and middle schools and Tongji University.
According to the development plan, the TUJBEG will adhere to the principles of cultural heritage, quality priority, and mechanism innovation, promote the concept of "education" put forward in the first round of cooperation., An integrated consecutive education system will be established for primary and middle schools and colleges through the TUJBEG’s key pilot project of "building a pilot district for integrated ideological and political education of kindergartens, primary and middle schools and colleges through project-based learning", create a Tongji Basic Education brand, and improve the quality of education environment and teachersfor cultivation of more talents.
During the meeting, people spoke high of the achievements made by the consecutive schools for the past five years, and discussed the introduction of teachers, the construction of characteristic projects, and the cultivation of talents, so as to clarify the direction of the schools’ development for the next five years.
WANG Hao expressed his gratitude to the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Tongji University for their support to the Jiading education. He hoped that members of the TUJBEG will explore new opportunities and set new goals for development, to include improving teaching quality, creating a new example for basic education in Tongji University, and running high-quality schools.

YANG Zhenfeng recognized the cooperation results achieved between Tongji and Jiading District in basic education. He said that the cooperation model featuring "run by the government, managed by the university and participated by the society" has pooled efforts of various parties to develop education together, which provides a good example for Shanghai's comprehensive education reform in terms of rich education resources supply, harmonious education environment and all-round development of students.
YANG Zhenfeng hopes the Group will explore the reform of basic education in accordance with high standards, concept, and goal of innovative talent training.

WU Jiang expressed his gratitude to all units that supported the cooperative education. He expressed his hope that the leading and radiating role of the university and the council’s favorable policies should be fully leveraged to build a mutually supportive and synergistic school governance structure for the university and branch campuses in accordance with Shanghai Municipal Education Commission’s guidance of "ensuring people's livelihood, deepening reform, promoting balance and improving quality", and continue to better utilize resources provided by the parent university. He desires the schools to run basic education well under the guidance of Tongji University, promote the development of educational quality in the Jiading District, and meet the people's needs for a quality education.

Before the meeting, WANG Hao, WU Jiang, and others went to the Jiading kindergarten to examine the facilities and equipment. They unveiled the "Basic Education Alliance around Tongji University" jointly with the leaders of the Primary and Middle Schools affiliated to Tongji, Huangdu Primary and Middle Schools, and the Zijing and Anshi Primary Schools. The alliance is an important part of the TUJBEG. After sorting out the university's curriculum, professors, labs and other educational resources one by one, the TUJBEG takes the initiative to play a radiating role among the schools under the alliance, aiming to build quality basic education within the Tongji Knowledge and Economy Circle.
